Manchester United have suffered an incredible amount of injuries this season , with the likes of Martinez, Shaw, Varane, Casemiro, Mainoo, Diallo amongst a list of injuries that have severely impacted Ten Hag’s selections and team chemistry. This is the saving point of Ten Hag’s job right now, as if he had a full squad with these results, he would have been sacked long ago.

One of the best things to come out of Jim Ratcliffe’s partial takeover and full takeover of football operations, will be the removal of John Murtough as the director of football. His signings off the back of Ten Hag’s recommendations, have really put the club in yet another tough position financially, as instead of making it work with some of the existing young players, they shipped them out, kept the wrong players and then signed players for crazy fees.
Some of the worst signings in terms of inflated transfer fees being;
- Antony – £86m
- Casemiro – £60 m
- Rasmus Hojlund – £74m
- Mason Mount – £55m
- Andre Onana – £50m
So, now the question must be asked, why did they sign Antony for such a large fee? Elanga who was sold for £15m has more goals + assists in just this season, than Antony has across his two seasons at Manchester United. Mason Mount has yet to really feature due to injuries which he is renown for, Onana has been a disaster, essentially costing Man Utd their UCL campaign whilst they let last season’s Golden Glove winner leave for free..
The decisions to also keep Scott McTominay who is arguably the worst midfielder at the club along with being unable to sell other players has seen United stuck with a squad they don’t want. That said, Ten Hag continues to pick the same players that have let him down.

As for the Premier League, United only really have a chance at Europa or Conference League football next season, A full rebuild is now required where they focus on youth such as Garnacho, Hojlund, and Mainoo whilst making shrewd singings, similar to what Brighton and Newcastle United have done.

- Clear out the squad properly.
- Develop youth.
- Potentially replace the manager
- Hire a quality DOF
- Trust the process.
Until a proper path is laid down by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the club will continue in this vicious downfall since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure. Sadly, the decline of Manchester United will be used a learning for other big clubs in the future, with a hyper focus on how the club has declined due to poor decision making, player power, poor leadership and fantasy.
