In a hard-fought win, Tottenham toppled Luton 1-0 with 10 men for all the 2nd half, this continues Spurs unbeaten run to start the Premier League season and has them in 1st for at least a day. The win also sees Tottenham have their best start to a campaign since 1960.
The Tottenham Red Card
Bissouma was sent off in the last second of stoppage time in the first half for simulation, looking back, it was the correct decision and an incredibly stupid decision from such a terrific player.
The Goal
The only goal of the game came from Van de Ven who scored a well placed finish after some great work from James Maddison, the goal was Van De Ven first in a Spurs shirt and one he won’t forget. This continues the Spurs resurgence under Ange and such an incredible achievement to have this team in 1st after 8 games.
Late Drama
As the game entered the final minutes, Luton Town threw caution to the wind, committing more players forward in a desperate attempt to salvage a point. Spurs, sensing the urgency, relied on swift counter-attacks to exploit the gaps left in Luton’s defense. By this point though, Ange had subbed on Skipp and Emerson to solidify his defensive shape.
Impact on the Premier League
The win propelled Spurs up the Premier League table into 1st, strengthening their position in the race for European qualification. Luton Town, despite the loss, can take pride in their spirited performance, demonstrating their ability to compete against top-flight opposition, however it’s clear that they will be relegated this season as they just lack the quality required.
